Overview

An existing waterfront building, given a new public life.

The Public Market at South Shore Harbor is a premier, multipurpose waterfront destination situated on the historic site of the former Bally’s Casino on the New Orleans lakefront. Developed by South Shore Harbor Development Group and designed by the team at Scottmoore, this ambitious redevelopment project revitalizes the eastern end of Lakeshore Drive, transforming it into a vibrant community hub.

Spanning two floors with 26,080 square feet of interior space, the Marketplace serves as an accessible venue for live events, indoor and outdoor festivals, and local commerce. The venue is purposefully designed to highlight the region’s unique culture, offering a space where visitors can experience music—including jazz, blues, gospel, and zydeco—alongside artisanal demonstrations and local culinary arts.

Beyond its versatile nine bookable event spaces, the project represents a significant shift in the site’s utility, evolving from a closed facility into a welcoming anchor for the local visitor economy. Following its successful debut as a venue for the International Arts Festival in September 2026, the Public Market is poised to continue its growth with modern amenities, including a proposed 32-room suite hotel and a streamlined, user-friendly digital reservation platform that connects residents, tourists, and event organizers with the best of the lakefront.
